30 feet wide Sinkhole in Ocala Florida
A sinkhole in a Florida shopping center parking lot has caused significant disruptions for customers and workers.
According to WCJB, entry into the Vitamin Shoppe at the Gateway Plaza in Ocala is currently prohibited. The sinkhole emerged on Saturday morning and measures approximately 30 feet wide and 18 feet deep.
The general contractor responsible for repairs stated that a damaged storm drain led to water leakage and eventual collapse of the pipe, resulting in the formation of the sinkhole.
Ocala officials mentioned that the property management will address the sinkhole as it is on private property, pending approval of a repair plan submitted to the city.
The repair process is anticipated to take around two to three weeks, while nearby road traffic remains unaffected.
Although the Vitamin Shoppe is temporarily closed, other businesses in the plaza remain open.
