Alachua County

June 2019 – A sinkhole appeared on June 21, 2019 at I-75 southbound, north of the 382-mile marker (Williston Road exit) in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida. According to Florida Highway Patrol, it was 10 feet wide and about 12 to 15 feet deep.

May 2017 – A water line break caused a sinkhole to open up next to Newberry Road near Northwest 266th Street. The sinkhole was about 30 feet wide and 30 feet deep near the roadway.

Nov 2015 – A sinkhole opened near the main entrance of UF Health Shands Hospital. The sinkhole was 5 feet in diameter.

June 2014 – A large sinkhole has opened up near the Campus USA Credit Union near Newberry Road in Jonesville.

May 2012 –  A giant maw of sinkhole opened in the Mathenys’ backyard at 11958 SW Fifth Avenue in the Jonesville area. The sinkhole was 80 feet long and 40 feet wide.

March 2005 – A sinkhole was reported in a resident’s back yard at Kanapaha Highlands in Alachua County, southwest of Archer Road and I-75. The hole was 12 to 14 feet in diameter and about 12 feet deep.

Bay County

Jul 2017 –  A large sinkhole opened up near Cobia Street, it was about three feet wide and four feet deep and reportedly damaged several cars.

June 2016 – A large sinkhole had opened in the southbound lane of Joan Avenue between North Lagoon Drive and Front Beach Road.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL
May 2014 – A sinkhole appeared in Boca Lagoon Drive. The hole was at least 15 feet wide and 4 feet deep.

Brevard County

PALM BAY CITY, FL
Oct 2017 – A hole opened up on La Maderia Drive, Palm Bay in the Sawgrass subdivision.  The hole was about 14 feet by 20 feet.

COCOA CITY, FL
Sep 2017 – A sinkhole was spotted on Indian River Drive in Cocoa.

May 2019 – A sinkhole formed in Deerfield Beach, Broward County on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, when a car crashed into a fire hydrant.

May 2018 – A large sinkhole formed outside Cooper City’s Biltmore Grove gated community after AT&T workers busted a water main near the neighborhood’s entrance.

Aug 2017 – A sinkhole opened up in Pembroke Pines, blocking an entrance and exit to a shopping plaza just south of Pines Boulevard.

Sep 2016  – Sinkhole opens up in Charlotte County as flood cleanup continues.

June 2015 – Several Port Charlotte residents are worried about possible sinkholes forming on their property. They say it started after Charlotte County did some repairs on a canal behind their homes.

Citrus County

Aug 2019 – A large hole opened up when workers were drilling a new well for a home under construction in Homosassa. Crews were excavating the well for the homeowners off of West Lincoln Lane when the void opened, swallowing a 40-foot tree.

Jan 2018 – A pair of holes opened up on U.S. 19 near Homosassa, slowing traffic on the already congested roadway.

Feb 2017 – A sinkhole caused multiple road closures in the area of U.S. Highway 19 and Grover Cleveland Boulevard. The hole stretches approximately 20 feet from the stop bar on Grover Cleveland, into the intersection.

Aug 2019 – A sinkhole measuring 60 feet in diameter opened up overnight near a stretch of Auburn Avenue between Princeton and Notre Dame streets in Keystone Heights.

June 2012 – Hundreds of people in Clay County were trapped in their homes because of sinkholes along County Road 218 between Mimosa and Nolan Road, just west of Blanding. Sinkholes were at least 40 feet.

June 2018 – Part of a Collier County road collapsed, shutting down lanes of US 41 due to a sinkhole, the hole apparently formed from a burst pipe.

Mar 2005 – A sinkhole opened up in front of a home in Lake City. About 3 million gallons of water is pouring into the sinkhole every six minutes from a nearby pond. The hole was 225 feet long and 100 feet wide.

Dec 2018 – A 12-foot-sinkhole swallowed a man’s car as he was driving to work Saturday morning on Clyde Drive near Lem Turner Road.

April 2018 – A massive sinkhole reported on the city’s Westside Thursday night caused road closures near Ringhaver Park. The sinkhole was reported in the 5300 block of 118th Street near Sundown Drive.

Aug 2013 – A sinkhole appeared near the tennis courts at Chapman Square, (14th Street and Avenue D) in Apalachicola. The three-foot-by-three-foot depression is over two feet deep.

Gilchrist County

TRENTON, FL
April 2017 – A 10-year-old pug named Cookie fell into a giant sinkhole that opened after Tuesday’s rains. It took rescuers five hours to dig her free and lift her to safety. The hole was 30-foot deep.

April 2011 – An experienced well driller died late Saturday after a sinkhole opened beneath him and his truck fell in on top of him. Smith was drilling near Trenton, in North Florida. The sides of the 35-foot sinkhole kept collapsing, making recovery of the body difficult. Smith was buried under five feet of dirt.

TRENTON-FANNING SPRINGS, FL
June 2005 – A sinkhole on State Road 26 in Gilchrist County has grown to be the largest that Florida Department of Transportation employees have worked on in North Florida. The hole was estimated to have grown to 48 by 36 feet with an average depth of 30 feet.

Hamilton County

July 2017 – A large sinkhole that had opened near the intersection of 96th Street and College Avenue on the border of Marion and Hamilton counties. A rusted water pipe ruptured causing the hole that was about 12 feet by 18 feet in size and 5 feet deep.

Hernando County

BROOKSVILLE, FL
May 2018 – A large sinkhole opened up by Bayfront Health Brooksville hospital in a water retention pond between State Road 50 and the hospital’s parking lot. The sinkhole is estimated to be 25 feet in diameter and 20 feet deep.

Aug 2017 – Reclassification of sinkhole repairs in Hernando County leaves homeowners worried. A total of seven homes in the neighborhood were condemned as a result of the sinkhole, which grew to an estimated 50 feet deep and 250 feet wide.

Orange County

WINTER PARK, FL
May 1981 – A sinkhole opened in Winter Park and gained international attention because of its size. Measuring 350 feet wide and 75 feet deep, the hole swallowed the home of resident Mae Rose Williams, a car dealership and five Porsches, portions of two streets, as well as the Olympic-sized swimming pool of the town. The total damages reached $4 million. According to geologist Jim Jammal, it is the largest sinkhole as a result of natural geological reasons or conditions.

June 2002 – A sinkhole measuring 150 feet wide and about 60 feet deep opened near the Woodhill Apartments in Orlando, Florida

June 2016 – Motorists traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 98 about 200 yards east of Gulf Shore Drive encountered a 3- to 4-foot sinkhole that delayed traffic and even closed down part of the roadway.

November 2010 – Man drives jeep into sinkhole in West Palm Beach. As the man drove his 1995 Jeep Cherokee across the flooded roadway at about 5 p.m., the front end fell into a sinkhole.

May 2013 – A 20-foot-wide sinkhole opens in Boca Raton neighborhood. The hole caused students to be evacuated from a school bus that got caught in the hole. The hole was about twenty feet wide and five feet deep.

August 2013 – A sinkhole that’s about 30 feet wide and 30 feet deep opened west of Dade City. The hole was located in the rural area of where Jessamine and Jim Denney roads intersect, east of Interstate 75 and west of Dade City.

June 2018 – 15-foot sinkhole opened up in New Port Richey and 4 homes voluntarily evacuated. The depression opened up in the Moon Lake area of Pearl Drive. It was approximately 15 square feet and is about 10 feet deep in the backyard of two mobile homes.

October 2017 –  St. Petersburg police are warning drivers to stay away from a road in the middle lane of 34th Street South at 4th Avenue South where a depression has formed that is large enough to swallow a car. The depression was about 10 feet deep and 10 feet across.

July 2016 – A massive sinkhole that opened underneath a gypsum stack at a Mosaic phosphate fertilizer plant in Mulberry may have dumped at least 215 million gallons of contaminated water into the Floridan Aquifer. A 45-foot-wide sinkhole opened at the New Wales plant, where phosphate rock mined elsewhere is converted into fertilizer.

November 2013 – Three sinkholes formed in the area at the Branford Wastewater Treatment Plant, draining treated wastewater contents of the plant’s percolation pond. The area is located one-half mile east of Branford High School, just south of CR 247 and 77th Road.

January 2013 – A sinkhole opened just before noon in a gravel parking lot in the DeLand area, uprooting a large tree and damaging some power lines. The sinkhole was inside a fenced-in pasture and was more than 50 feet long and 20 feet across.

June 2018 –  A sinkhole opened up overnight in Crawfordville New Light Church Road near Log Cabin Road. The hole was approximately 25 feet from the roadway.

March 2017 – The Walton County Public Works department has closed a section of County Road 30A that was affected by a large sinkhole.

January 2016 – A five foot deep sinkhole opened in a pretty rural neighborhood on the west side of Vernon
