South Fort Myers – Lee County Sinkhole in Florida
A sinkhole formed along US 41 in the southbound lanes of Tamiami Trail located in South Fort Myers in Lee County, Florida on a Tuesday morning, November 12, 2019. This was caused by a water main break that softened the ground in the area.
A garbage truck fell into the sinkhole, though it was already removed. According to an official from Lee County, about 15 businesses in the area were affected by the hole, while about 50 customers had no water service. Joshua Burnside, one of the business owners, said he saw what happened while he’s at work, including the massive flood that came down through the street.
The hole was repaired later that day.
