Major Water Main Break in Downtown Miami Lakes Leads to Floods and Sinkhole
In Miami Lakes, Florida, a water main incident occurred, leading to flooding on a significant roadway early Monday evening. The incident unfolded on Northwest 67th Avenue near New Barn Road, resulting in the closure of a section of the road. As a consequence of the break, a sinkhole formed, trapping a driver inside an SUV.
Sky 10’s images depicted the SUV stranded in the floodwaters, with Miami-Dade police present to manage traffic diversion. The driver, preferring anonymity, disclosed that she was en route to work at a nearby establishment called the Ale House when her vehicle became ensnared in the sinkhole. She described the water level as ankle-deep initially, allowing other vehicles to traverse until her SUV became immobilized.
According to a spokesperson for the town, the main was damaged by a contractor engaged in work along Northwest 67th Avenue. Officials from Miami-Dade’s water and sewer department responded to the scene shortly before 5:45 p.m. to address the situation.
Northwest 67th Avenue was reopened to traffic on Tuesday morning, although the financial implications of the incident for the town remain uncertain.
