Sinkhole Along Route 136 – Lancaster County Sinkhole
Hempfield, pa. – A sinkhole of considerable size opened up along the 3200 block of Route 136 on Thursday.
According to initial reports, the sinkhole is 15 feet wide and 20 feet deep. It has exposed the guardrail’s underground structure.
Melissa Maczko, PennDOT District 12 spokesperson, said that her department is investigating the cause and effects of the sinkhole.
“However, the area of concern is outside of the shoulder and is currently not impacting the roadway,” Maczko said. “We will continue to monitor the situation.”
