Allentown – Lehigh County Sinkhole in Pennsylvania
A sinkhole formed on South 17th Street, south of Walnut Street on April 30, 2020 due to a major water main break.
The hole partially swallowed two vehicles and caused flooding in the city street. One of which was a postal service van. After delivering mail packages, half of the truck was already in the sinkhole. According to the Lehigh County Authority, the water main has a diameter of 30 inches, servicing some areas in the city as well as other communities.
Water interruptions were reported by residents because of the incident. A boil water notice was issued for residents in Westmount Apartments. Water quality tests were also done to make sure that there is no contamination.
No one was injured. The authorities have yet to find out the cause of the break.

Back in 2017, in the spring, we had three floods behind the apts. A major sink hole opened up, at least the size of a city block. My kitchen floor completely cracked. The apt. manager nor maintenance didn’t take it seriously, until the entire floor cracked. I was lied to & knew it. I was told previous sloppy work. My front door lock had to be replaced. It would open up by itself. There was also a small dent in the wall. I just noticed there is a crack starting at my double doors to the end of the back patio. I have mold, I’m sure, very ugly black & growing. Also, poor air quality, which is haze. I had lost the stove clock & was able to get it back. My micro wave stop working. The water, in my kitchen sink, for a while, was cloudy. Eventually there was a small burner to the stove fire, but the smoke was so bad I had a heart attack. After the small fire, my micro wave started working & the water cleared up. A few days after I came home, the bathroom sink clogged up. I managed to unclog it & greenish blackish slimy substance looking like anchovies, a school of fish. There was a second fire, the hood & I wasn’t home, at that time. The rug has black all through it. My closet floor, I cleared the boxes out of it & will not put them back in. I have been nothing but lied to. I have the symptoms of mold sensitivity. Recently a puddle appeared around my toilet. It was cleared & no oder. I walked right into it & it wet my P.J pants. There was no leak. They let the man who mows the grass mow right on top of it. The mower, they use vibrates terrible. I told the office this is dangerous. I don’t recall hearing it this year. They have done little to nothing about it & it isn’t even listed. There is another much smaller sink hole right near me. The apt does not do a thing, not even rope it off. Before this happened, my AC was squealing & grinding, on & off all day long. I reported it & they did nothing. A year later, all the problems started happening. My bathroom drain has always been a problem. My bathroom needs to be clean three times a week or it’s a grimy mess. It should only need a good cleaning once a week. Is this sick building syndrome or sink hole problems or both?
