River Ridge Area in New Port Richey – Pasco County Sinkhole
A sinkhole opened last Thursday, March 8, 2018 caving in under a house in the River Ridge area in New Port Richey, Pasco County in Florida.
At first, people thought it was a depression, but experts examined it and said it has signs of a real sinkhole – the depth of the hole which is eight feet, a large amount of soil that is missing, and the straight down walls. An engineer who was hired by the insurance company of the homeowner arrived at the scene on Friday to assess the damage.
Officials have declared the property unsafe and evacuated the residents of the affected home. The county management sprayed orange paint around the sinkhole to check for growth. The neighbor who is about six feet away from the sinkhole remained in his home. He was warned that if the orange paint disappears, which means that the sinkhole is getting bigger, he should leave the area right away.
