St. Cloud – Osceola County Sinkhole in Florida
A hole with a depth of 12 feet formed in St. Cloud in Osceola County, Florida on December 18, 2019. A bicyclist fell into the hole which was caused by the collapse of a stormwater pipe. This caused the sidewalk to break apart.
City officials believe that the 10-foot pipe collapsed after midnight. The bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk on Old Canoe Creek Road before 4 AM when he fell into the hole. He sustained cuts on his face and was brought to the hospital. Old Canoe Creek Road was shut down from Neptune Road to 13th Street. Motorists were asked to take alternative routes.
Officials added that repairing the pipe could take weeks.
