Moon Lake – Pasco County Sinkhole
On Monday, June 25, 2018, a hole opened at Moon Lake, at the 11790 block of Pearl Drive in the Caribbean Estates mobile home park in Pasco County, Florida.
The hole has a diameter of 15 feet and depth of 10 feet. It appeared in the backyards of two homes. This prompted authorities to ask the residents of six homes to evacuate. Five of the homes were red-tagged, to inform everyone that these are unlivable for the time being.
According to Kevin Guthrie, assistant county administrator for public safety, a resident saw the hole and called 911. The cause is yet to be known, although the officials said there are no pipes in the hole. This minimizes the possibility that it was due to a water main break.
Almost a year ago, a large sinkhole, measuring 230 feet wide and 50 feet deep, appeared at Land O’Lakes, around a 30-minute drive southeast of the depression that opened at Moon Lake. The Land O’Lakes sinkhole swallowed two homes and made seven other homes unlivable.
